  • Teamsters Host Conference On Improving Public Services
    Sen. Cardin, Rep. Connolly Applaud Work Of Public Employees

    The International Brotherhood of Teamsters hosted a conference on March 9 attended by numerous labor and governmental organizations seeking ways to give Americans the best public service available.

    The International Brotherhood of Teamsters hosted a conference on March 9 attended by numerous labor and governmental organizations seeking ways to give Americans the best public service available.

    The meeting was held to discuss President Obama’s Executive Order on “Creating Labor- Management Forums to Improve Delivery of Government Services.” A key aspect of the order is the role labor-management forums will play in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of federal agencies.

    Sen. Ben Cardin of Maryland and Rep. Gerry Connolly of Virginia, spoke of the important work federal employees do, and other panelists discussed ways to use constructive labor and management relationships to improve performance and the quality of worklife.

    Michael Filler, Director of the Public Services Division, said “the gathering of more than 30 organizations at the Teamsters marks a historic beginning for labor and management in implementing the President’s executive order.”

    The conference was co-sponsored by American University, Syracuse University and Wayne State University.
     



  • Obstructionist Republican Blocks FAA Bill As Political Favor To FedEx

    Last year, the House of Representatives passed a bill reauthorizing the Federal Aviation Administration and devoting $70 billion to airport infrastructure through 2012. The bill also changed an inequity in labor law which has allowed FedEx to operate under the Railway Labor Act (RLA), while other shipping companies like UPS are governed by the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA).



  • Flight 3407 Families Put Pressure On Senator

    About 20 members of the Families of Continental Flight 3407 descended on the Capitol today, intent on pressuring a Tennessee senator to abandon his plans to stop a bill filled with aviation safety measures from coming up for a vote.

    Irate families of victims of a plane crash last year near Buffalo, N.Y., are blaming Sen. Bob Corker's intervention on behalf of FedEx for a potential delay in passing higher safety standards in an FAA reauthorization bill.
